Twilight Book – hardcover
I first heard of this book when I was watching The View one summer. Whoopi Goldberg was saying how she was reading it as she interviewed a young actress. I quickly Googled it and I got my copy of Twilight.I read it in 2 weeks – I couldn’t put it down. I know 2 weeks is lame but hey I had life in the way. I’ve always loved the stories of Vampires so I was sold.
When I first got the book I was like woah this is thick…I started reading it and it was boring and really slow – soon after I couldn’t put it down. I fell inlove with the character Edward I mean who wouldn’t. Granted the writing aspect of Meyer wasn’t that great I felt like I was reading a R.L. Stein novel…instead of a young adult novel. But, I remembered my age and also who the books were written for young kids. Kinda. I strongly believe no one under the age of 13 should be reading these books. They’re way too emotional and this aspect of love and relationships, anger and such is not something that should be instilled in a young child. I was very shocked when I would see kids that looked younger that 10 picking up the books and reading it. I mean hey I’m all for literacy but there are other books these kids should be reading.
—————————————————————————————-
When seventeen-year-old Isabella “Bella” Swan leaves her beloved mother Renee, whom she has lived with alone ever since she was a baby, after Renee and her husband Charlie Swan were divorced, at the airport leaving Phoenix for the small town of Forks, Washington, in the incredibly cloud and rainy Olympic Peninsula to live with Charlie, she expects to completely hate it. Bella is only leaving her mother because Renee recently married Phil, a small-league baseball player, and wants to give them time alone while they are in Florida. Bella has memories of vacationing for a month each summer in Forks with Charlie, and those memories are not exactly fond, especially because of the constant wetness, slipperiness, and the never-ending sheets of rain pouring down on the town. When she comes to Charlie’s home, seeing the pictures of Renee, she realizes her father never really got over her. And it does not exactly help Bella’s already-wracked nerves about her first day at a new school tomorrow at Forks High School.
Upon completely half of her first day at school, Bella befriends chatty Jessica Stanley, quiet Angela Weber, and the puppy-dog follower Mike Newton. At lunch in the cafeteria, Bella notices five strange, pale, and inhumanly beautiful teenagers sitting together, isolated from the rest of the students, not eating anything. Jessica explains to Bella that they are Edward Cullen, Emmett Cullen, Alice Cullen, Jasper Hale, and Rosalie Hale, who have been adopted by Dr. Carlisle Cullen, a handsome stud of a doctor in his twenties, and his wife Esme. But is the noticeably attractive Edward that truly catches Bella’s eye. But in her presence, Edward cannot seem to stand being around Bella. His brow furrows, his eyes alight with fury, a vein pulses heatedly in his temple, and he gets extremely angry. Hurt, Bella believes he despises her.
But it is not the case. As Bella and Edward get reacquainted and get closer and comfier with each other, Bella discovers that Edward and the rest of his “family” have a shocking dark secret—they are all vampires. But all the famous beliefs about vampires are not true: stakes, holy water, garlic, and crosses cannot harm them, and they do not burn in the sunlight, they only sparkle brilliantly. Edward at first appeared so furious near Bella because he was so fiercely attracted to the scent of very being, and the smell of her blood, that he could hardly contain himself. It was even more desirous because the family, lead by Carlisle, have vowed to never feast upon human blood. They only hunt animals. But, near Bella, Edward could barely control his bloodthirsty vampire instincts.
But, contrary to Edward’s expectations, Bella is not afraid of Edward and his family because they are vampires, and the possibility that he could so easily and quickly kill Bella in an instant. Instead, she is passionately and utterly in love and attracted to him—his cold marble skin, his icy eyes that change color depending on his mood, his cool reassuring breath… Bella is devastated at the very prospect of Edward leaving her. She does not believe that she could ever survive without after the touch of his hand on her skin, the desperate exhilaration of his lips upon hers, the real safety she feels when in his cold arms. She wishes to spend her entire lifetime with him, an eternity rather, and, as danger and terror surrounded Edward and Bella’s romance, they will discover more things about themselves, their surroundings, and the meaning of true love.
In an incredibly impressive debut, author Stephenie Meyer writes an eloquent novel of two star-crossed lovers’ journey through horror, desire, passion, love, jealousy, and near-fatal experiences. In a story that desperately begs for a sequel, Bella, Edward, and all the other colorful characters in the novel—especially Carlisle and Alice, in my opinion—come to life. The danger is real, the love rings true, and the passion between Bella and Edward is near-orgasmic. This young adult novel will definitely readily appeal to interested adults, as well. In the words of Stephenie Meyer herself, this is a vampire novel for people who do not particularly enjoy vampire novels. And believe me, this is an accurate statement, for I have never considered myself fond of vampire books, except for some Anne Rice here or there, and I fell in love with this book as easily as Bella and Edward did with each other. This is a darkly beautiful love story sure to stay in the readers’ minds and never fade away. SOURCE: By E.G. Matthews “An Avid Reader” (Ohio, USA)
