“Behold, children are a gift of the Lord”, is taken from PSALM 127:3.

Today… was a great day. I work with students right now who have symptoms and are diagnosed with Autism, and different PDDs. Normally while students wait for their school bus. They have time to play on the play scape/jungle gym.  SO this one student who is not in my classroom shows me a little gift that another teacher gave him since she’ll be leaving. He continues to jump and slide down the slide and pole and I asked him “sweetie why don’t you let me hold it so you can play” he hands it to me and smiles, i reply back with, “Thanks sweetie – this way you wont lose it”. He stops and smiles and says “thanks for calling me sweetie”. I asked him, ” is that okay- that i call you that?” he replied “oh yes- it makes me very happy” and gives me the BIGGGGGEST SMILE ever.

As teachers we have a role to be on going learners and teachers that care for all children. Our job isn’t just from 8-3. Our Job continuously on going- just by simply talking to a child can brighten their day – when you have good intentions. I care about all children and after working with students with special needs i can see how smart, and driven they are to learn and explore things (but i’ve always known this). Especially after a long day of routine and lessons- sometimes a student just needs you to talk with them so they can see that you love and care about their well being.

Hearing those words of appreciation from him today makes what i do priceless. these are memories i will never ever forget for the rest of my life.
