I don’t want to go to school! I hate school! I’d rather do anything than go to school!

The first days of school has always been exciting to me. When I was growing up that meant I would get a fresh new pair of Adidas kicks and some new clothes. I didn’t really care about the clothes. I was more excited about getting… new notebooks, binders, pens, and pencil crayons. I have so much school supply still left over from those years, its ridiculous. I found myself (as I got into the teaching profession) giving away supplies to classrooms that I would visit. So the students would use them.

As the years went on this is basically, how my first days of school went. Preparing over the years have progressed and changed concerning materialistic things to get a good education.

Elementary Student:

  • scared/nervous
  • new clothes/shoes
  • new pencils/notebooks/binders/paper/markers/erasers/

High School Student:

  • scared/nervous
  • new clothes/shoes/backpack
  • paper/pencils

As a University Student:

  • scared/nervous
  • new clothes/shoes/purse/backpack
  • pack of pens and coiled notebooks

As a Teacher:

  • We actually have to be in schools 3 weeks in advance
  • setting up our classroom
  • making sure we understand who our students are and if there are any special accommodations we have to make

The amount of things parents buy for their kids now-a-days is crazy. One school I went to, a student went out of their way to PIMP-their LOCKER. It had mirrors and Dividers/sorters/ etc…etc….

It’s really fun being excited about gearing up for school. It is an exciting time to meet new friends and share your creativity and personality with others. The first days of school is something that should of been something to be excited about *I say should because I know a lot of people have different situations*. Some individuals may not be excited because they are dreading being picked on and be overwhelmed.

However being in a place of learning is fun. Younger students may not see the benefit but I’m 25 now and I love love love to learn. Our minds are always being introduced to new concepts and ideas.

I appreciate the first days back at school. I hope a lot of people out there do as well.

Snoopy’s Philosophy

Name: Tim Newlin
Site: http://www.timtim.com

Snoopy from the ‘Peanuts’ comic strip was created by Charles Schulz. Schulz had a philosophy about life that came out in his work and can best be summed up with the following quiz. Try this out and you’ll get the point.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

2. Name the last five men’s single’s winners of the Wimbledon Tennis Championship.

3. Name the last 4 winners of the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant.

4. Name ten people who have won a Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.

5. Name the last six Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.

6. Name the last five years worth of MTV’s Most Promising New Artist Award.

Most of us don’t score well on this quiz. Why? – because most of us forget yesterday’s headlines. These are no second-rate achievers. They are or were the best in their fields. But the applause fades away and achievements are forgotten.

Here’s another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.

2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.

3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.

4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special!!

5. Think of four people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier – right? The lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones who care the most. So, be yourself – everyone else is taken!

Charles Schulz created the Peanuts Comic Strip back in the early 1950’s at the same time that Mort Walker created the Beetle Bailey comic strip. Mort and Charles became good friends and often saw each other at dinner parties and gatherings of other comic artists. Timtim visited Mort Walker’s studio in Connecticut before Christmas. He is still producing Beetle Bailey comic strips!

The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term The answer by one student was so “profound” that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.

Here is the professor’s “Bonus Question”: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle’s Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let’s look at the different Religions that exist in the world today.

Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will

go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially.

Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle’s Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my freshman year

that, “it will be a cold day in  Hell before I sleep with you”, and take into account the fact that I  slept with her last night, then number 2 must be true, and thus I am sure  that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over.

The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is  not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct…leaving only  Heaven . . . thereby proving the existence of a divine being . . . which  explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting “Oh my  God.”

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED THE ONLY “A”

“Behold, children are a gift of the Lord”, is taken from PSALM 127:3.

Today… was a great day. I work with students right now who have symptoms and are diagnosed with Autism, and different PDDs. Normally while students wait for their school bus. They have time to play on the play scape/jungle gym.  SO this one student who is not in my classroom shows me a little gift that another teacher gave him since she’ll be leaving. He continues to jump and slide down the slide and pole and I asked him “sweetie why don’t you let me hold it so you can play” he hands it to me and smiles, i reply back with, “Thanks sweetie – this way you wont lose it”. He stops and smiles and says “thanks for calling me sweetie”. I asked him, ” is that okay- that i call you that?” he replied “oh yes- it makes me very happy” and gives me the BIGGGGGEST SMILE ever.

As teachers we have a role to be on going learners and teachers that care for all children. Our job isn’t just from 8-3. Our Job continuously on going- just by simply talking to a child can brighten their day – when you have good intentions. I care about all children and after working with students with special needs i can see how smart, and driven they are to learn and explore things (but i’ve always known this). Especially after a long day of routine and lessons- sometimes a student just needs you to talk with them so they can see that you love and care about their well being.

Hearing those words of appreciation from him today makes what i do priceless. these are memories i will never ever forget for the rest of my life.
